Welcome to another Spilling the Milk Series on the podcast where I chat to a range of amazing mums who have been through it all.
We talk candidly and openly about their pregnancy journeys, challenges along the way, their birth story, and importantly, we also discuss the 4th trimester and beyond.
We discuss recovery, mental health, physical health and everything else that goes along with this journey we call motherhood.
In this inspiring podcast episode I chat with Maddy Zanatta, who fearlessly opens up about her experiences with two miscarriages and the subsequent successful birth via maternal assisted caesarean birth.
Maddy Zanatta, an advocate for body positivity and diversity, has become a voice of strength and inclusion. In our interview, Maddy sheds light on the stigma surrounding miscarriages and her decision to share her story openly on social media. Her bravery aims to break down barriers and foster understanding among us all.
During the conversation, Maddy also addresses the impact of these experiences on her mental health. She speaks candidly about the emotional toll and anxiety she faced during the first trimester of her subsequent pregnancy.
Choosing the type of birth was a significant decision for Maddy, given her past miscarriages. She explored her options and discovered the concept of maternal assisted cesarean birth through a friend. During the birth, Maddy and her husband found themselves in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere at the hospital, setting the stage for a positive journey ahead.
Breastfeeding presented its own set of obstacles for Maddy. She navigated conflicting advice and concerns about her milk supply. Unfortunately, she also faced judgment and backlash for her feeding choices. Yet, Maddy found solace in the support of loved ones, emphasising the significance of a strong support system during this vulnerable time.
Maddy’s physical recovery post-birth was not without its challenges. She experienced pain and weakness, leading her to seek help from a physiotherapist. As she adjusted to the demands of parenting, Maddy recognised the need to give herself a break and find balance amidst the chaos.
Returning to the gym, she embraced the reality of her diminished strength while celebrating the progress she made along the way.
Maddy’s story serves as a powerful reminder that no two journeys are the same. By sharing our experiences, we can find strength and support in one another. We encourage you to tune in to the full episode and be inspired by Maddy’s resilience and determination.
Join us in our next episode as we continue to explore the joys and challenges of pregnancy, birth, and recovery. And remember, you are not alone on this transformative journey. Together, we will navigate the fourth trimester and beyond, one heartfelt story at a time.
